Cool Blogging Course

I’m evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it’s still free.

EXL Teacher Mastermind 62

Hey Boys & Girls,

No big news today…just a quick session talking about what happened in class this week.

Mauricio shared a neat tip…something that one of his students did this week.

He brought a series of envelopes…each on a different theme. Inside each of the envelopes there were 10 words written on slips of paper. All of the words were related to that theme…except for one of the words.

The students had to look at the words on the slips of paper in the target language. They had to find out what they met. The objective of the exercise was to discover which word did not belong in the group.

It went over really well.

Then he did another exercise where he reviewed the words already learned during the semester.

P.S. Whoever got the correct meaning of the word got a prize (chocolate) .

EXL Teacher Mastermind 61

Hey Boys & Girls,

Today we started off talking about a new technique Mauricio’s been using in his EFL classroom to motivate his students to study the language. He actually does it…and gets out of doing his job of teaching the language. He makes the students teach theĀ  lessons now. ;)

Lolly had another run-in with her ‘problem student’ over a test. And we talked about different ways of resolving the problem. We even got as extreme as discussing the possibility of ‘firing’ this student. Not because it is the only option…but just because it is upsetting the other students.

Then we planned out what we are going to do for the next Free Conversation night. It should be a lot of fun. So, we have some work to do to get ready for it. We already filled up most of the available spots for it. And everyone is excited about it.

So, enjoy the mastermind and leave your comments and suggestion and ideas in the comment section below.

EXL Teacher Mastermind 60

Hey Boys & Girls,

We covered what each of the teachers are doing in their classes.

This was a wild and fun week. Lolly shares an interesting ‘run-in’ with one of her English students. ;)

We also talked about some unique research results on using movies in the language classroom.

And how we are applying it here with our ESL students.

Denis came up with this lesson plan from Toy Story…using the movie to teach verb tenses and POV perspective.

Specifically the use of narration before, during and after watching the movie.

There was some really interesting research done that discusses this technique that we covered in a previous post.
